Betwixt and between

Filed under: Uncategorized — elissakaren @ 5:55 am

Tis the night before moving, and all through the house… are boxes, trash bags, debris, dismantled furniture, rolled-up rugs, bare walls, and dwindling packing supplies. Just about anything I want at any given moment is already sealed inside a carton somewhere. I’m as tired as I’ve ever been. I’m glad we chose a three-day weekend to accomplish this — we’re going to need it all.

Hovering somewhere in the space between these two homes — no longer here, not yet there — is very strange. It’s stressful and even tinged with melancholy. I’m thrilled with the house we’re moving into, but I will miss living in the city of Portland. Tonight I’ve been looking out the window at the warmly lit house of our neighbors and friends across the street. I let my cat, Mac, outside when he asked to go, thinking that he has no idea that this is his last night to visit his friends here on this block.

Tomorrow evening’s post will be created from Vancouver. In the meantime, I’ve miles to go before I sleep.

  1. Portland will miss you, too. It’s odd to think that I won’t meet you over at the Fremont Grand Central anymore. *sigh*
