What do I expect from blogging?

Filed under: Uncategorized — elissakaren @ 8:24 am

David Rochester, whose blog I read religiously, wrote recently about being tagged with this topic. His response to it made me consider the question for myself. What do I expect from blogging? As I mentioned in my first post here, I’m expecting it to force me to write every day. And like David, it also forces me to be more careful and artful than I’d ever be in a journal. I believe that writing takes practice, like any other art. Choosing words with care, stringing them into compelling sentences, committing certain aspects of each day to paper — or I suppose, in this case, to the screen — well, I believe that doing this on a daily basis is better than not doing it. If a considerable part of the writer’s job is just to show up — as I believe it is — then this kind of discipline is worth cultivating for its own sake.
