Resolution for 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — elissakaren @ 3:02 am

I’m a writer who has stopped writing. Beginning this blog is a desperate measure to get myself to write something — anything — on a daily basis again. For nearly a year now, I’ve been held in constant thrall by David Rochester’s blog. In fact, Quotidian Anhedonia — uh, I mean Vicissitudes — has been my first real exposure to the whole idea of blogging, and it’s been a very consistent source of inspiration. David’s eloquence, his candor, his bravery, and the generosity of the WordPress community have made me want to try blogging myself. I need to recover the practice of hearing myself think and of writing those thoughts down, and this seems like a safe place to try it. I used to be a very brazen character, both on the page and off, and I’m amazed at how shy I feel about this whole process now. I’m hoping it will get easier.

  1. *bumps ankles* It will, don’t worry. 🙂 I dropped by to tell you I’ve forgotten how to do the linkish thing, apparently…I’ll go rummage in a cache and if David doesn’t show up right away with the information maybe I can find it.

  2. How frustrating that your comments to David’s blog did not create a link for your name! Perhaps you wrote 2007 instead of 2008 in your post, and now the bank refuses to cash your post because it has the wrong date on it?

In any case, welcome to the blogging community. Don’t feel shy–everyone is naked in the blogosphere, and no one can hear you rant in cyberspace.

  3. My Profile (link upper right when you click dashboard) under Contact Info-Website you enter your wordpress blog address including http://. That lets you turn your name into a link, and I know it works, ’cause I copied it from someone way smarter’n me. Sorry I’m not showing up as comments, I’m on a different computer. 🙂

  4. Fluffy and Mr. Random, how exciting to see your names here! Thanks so much for coming by. I have been so touched by many of your comments on David’s blog over the course of last year.

  5. Ah, I see you’ve corrected your technical difficulties. I am quite sure your shyness will wear off. Before you know it, you’ll be self-eviscerating in public just like me. (Well … hopefully not exactly like me.)

  6. You should feel nervous. Complete strangers are reading the things you write. Some of us are weirdos. Some weirdos are harmless weirdos. Some aren’t. I think I’m harmless but I’ve been wrong before.

  7. And aren’t you glad you tried this? I’m glad you’re here. I think it’s a wonderful exercise whether we blog daily or weekly or anywhere in between.

I truly hope this turns out to be a positive experience for you! I’m enjoying your writing!

  8. Aw, this was a very good post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort to
create a top notch article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole lot and never seem to get anything done.
